Disease Specific Informational Resources:
It may seem like you are going thru this alone, but do you realize that every day over 10,000 baby boomers are turning 65? Did you also know that 1 in 8 persons will get Alzheimer's or Dementia? That's approximately 12% of the county's population with this disease. Did you know Parkinson's is in the umbrella of Dementia issues? These diseases are more common place than you realize and the best source of information is thru the Alzheimer's Association. Click Here if you are looking for Dementia Care. The Alzheimer's website at www.Alz.org contains a wealth of caregiver information. There are times the Alzheimer's Association has given Grants to cover a portion of care costs, so if you call them, ask if you qualify for assistance as well.
Cancer remains a huge problem in this country that we have yet to conquer. The founder of Guardian Angels HomeCare lost her Dad to cancer many years ago when she was just a child. It's a difficult battle to fight and Connecticut is fortunate to have several leading cancer centers to help fight this disease. The Smilow Cancer Hospital which is part of Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven was dedicated in 2009 to fight cancer. It is known as a world class leader in this fight. The Harold Leever Cancer Center in Waterbury is another new facility leading the way. Some breakthroughs have been made. For additional information on these treatment centers, other locations for cancer care as well as the latest information on promising treatments go to the American Cancer Society's website.
